MOKKI STUDIO
Mokki is an internationally acclaimed lighting and objects Design Studio, renowned for its award-winning creations based in Sintra (Lisbon), Portugal.
Creating captivating and sculptural pieces, reflecting the personal and multicultural journey of its designer, Mokki Studio seamlessly blends elements to produce a unique and forward-thinking design. With a strong artistic background and a sensory universe, each line tells a story, as the designer’s passions and emotions are translated into pieces with a conceptual and architectural language

Mokki Design Studio was founded in 2016, placed near Lisbon, in Sintra, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the romantic, poetic and mystic mountain of Sintra, also known as “Monte da Lua”. Since its international debut at London Design Fair’18 in 2018, Mokki Design has gained recognition and received several prestigious international awards.
We are straightforward thinkers, a strong characteristic of the Atlantic people. The rugged landscapes and wild coastline along Galicia and Portugal are a rich source of inspiration. Raw, tangible and natural materials like wood, stone, glass, metals and textiles, coexist in an organic way with the intangible mythology and heritage. The never-ending search for beauty and the interconnection between technology, crafts and heritage define the aesthetic of Mokki design while evoking emotions.
“For me, Design is the deliberate translation of Art that encompasses every element, thoughtfully enhancing our surroundings to create a more beautiful, extraordinary, and visually captivating environment.”

Mónica Pinto
Artist, creative-director of Mokki Design

Mokki has its own design collection for lighting and objects, works in collaboration with interior designers and architects and develops public and private bespoke projects. Each piece is designed in the creative studio in Sintra, Lisbon, with high quality standards, striving to create sophisticated pieces that use hi-tech processes along with ancient craft techniques that center around the human experience.
All our production is manufactured in Portugal where the concept of sustainability is born in the creation of each piece. The materials and lighting technologies used in creating the objects or lamps are carefully selected to ensure their longevity and durability. The focus is not only on creating aesthetically pleasing designs but also on enhancing the functionality of the pieces. This attention to detail reflects the company’s commitment to providing high-quality products that are built to last.

MÓNICA PINTO
“Art for me is the purest form of expression of the humankind. The expression of the inconscient of the artist where all the questions, doubts and restlessness of the soul and mind become matter.”
Artist-Designer Mónica Pinto originally from Galicia, Spain graduated in Fine Arts, Decorative Painting, Restoration, Faux-Effects and Fresco at the Ricardo Espírito Santo Foundation, Lisbon, at the School of Restoration and Recovery of Heritage, Sintra and Life drawing and Art history at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon.
Coming from a multicultural family where Art in all its forms was always present, where her memories are an integral part of her imagery. The duality of her Portuguese and Spanish heritage is always present in her work.
Her experience with raw materials such as natural pigments, plasters, canvas in different supports, like walls and ceilings gave her a new perception of volumes, a better understanding of the very nature of the materials and a new comprehension of the Art history and the endless search of the human being to be surrounded by Beauty.
After spending several years working in all of these areas in her own atelier, a natural interest and passion for Design began to develop within her. This new world allowed her to materialize colors, volumes, and silhouettes into pieces that tell stories, emotions and create dialogues between function, design and beauty.
In 2016 she decided to launch her own brand MOKKI Design along with her partner, Nazaré, leaving the mainstream of Design trends to focus on the cohesion of humanity and technology within Design. 2018 was the international launch of Mokki Design at London Design Fair’18, which was followed by more international presences, partnerships and international awards. The search for new challenges, new forms, new concepts, and a desire to tell stories makes MOKKI never stop growing.
Her experience in decorative art techniques like chiaroscuro has played a significant role in her creative path and passion for light and objects for living. She skillfully incorporates her understanding of the interplay between light and shadow into every design. Whether working in two dimensions or three, she brings a nuanced understanding of the power of light to every project she undertakes. She believes that lighting pieces might be the most challenging ones to design, because without light there is no shadow, and without shadow there are no volumes. We need balance, the unknown, the dark and the light. Every new design whether an object or a lighting piece must defy her as a designer and as a human being. Each piece is unique for her because it reflects a time, a moment in her history, creating that state of mind where ideas begin to unfold on their own. It is an internal dialogue where inspiration and creativity come from all the things that arouse her interest at a certain moment, feelings, experiences, travels, cultures, … All these are stored and are a part of her design thinking process.
Monica was born in Galicia and spent her life between the north and Portugal, with the Atlantic Ocean serving as a connecting force. She now lives and works in Lisbon, still drawing inspiration from the different cultures and landscapes.

SUSTAINABILITY
Our primary focus on sustainability revolves around breaking the repetitive cycle of “use, spend, waste…” Our approach centers on designing with purpose rather than following trends. By prioritizing human well-being and actively contributing to a more responsible future, we aim to reduce our environmental impact for the benefit of future generations.

Through our dedication to mixing design with crafts and emotions, we are proud to contribute to a more responsible and sustainable industry. We envision a future where thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and emotional connections coexist harmoniously.
Each collection is designed and manufactured in Portugal. Our unwavering commitment to sustainability is evident in our careful selection of materials. We prioritize sourcing from sustainable forestry practices, which are rigorously certified by the FSC and every component used in our collections undergoes thorough evaluation for sustainability, durability, and environmental impact.

PACKAGING
We take great care in ensuring that every detail of our packaging materials reflects our brand philosophy and values.
The packaging of our exhibition pieces is fully handmade in our studio. We use plywood, ensuring their durability, strength and showing our signature colors incorporating a joyful and vibrant aesthetic while travelling around the world.
By opting for recyclable and recycled materials, we aim to minimize our environmental footprint and contribute to a healthier planet. We understand the importance of responsible consumption and take pride in providing our customers with sustainable packaging options. It’s our way of ensuring that the joy they experience when receiving our products is not overshadowed by negative impacts on the environment.
In addition to using eco-friendly materials, we also encourage our customers to properly dispose of the packaging after use. We provide clear instructions on how to recycle or reuse the materials, enabling them to actively participate in our sustainability efforts.

All of our packaging includes informative brochures about the piece, detailing its story, inspiration, and other relevant information. We also include cloth gloves for handling the product (when needed), assembly instructions, a brief presentation of our brand and a thankful note expressing our gratitude for supporting design, personally signed by Mónica Pinto.
